The seventh edition of the ‘Industry in Spain’ Awards have recognized the work of Hiperbaric, a pioneering Spanish company in the development of high-pressure industrial equipment, by awarding it the prize in the ‘sustainable mobility’ category. The awards, organized by the TecnoVitae Foundation, have highlighted its contribution to the welfare of society with the development of high-pressure hydrogen compression technology for the decarbonization of different sectors and sustainable mobility.

Miguel Hernando, industrial general manager of Hiperbaric, was in charge of collecting the award at a ceremony held yesterday at the Miguel Delibes Cultural Center in Valladolid, which brought together more than 500 guests and recognized the work and social contribution of important companies from different productive sectors.

Hiperbaric managed to beat four other finalists and win the recognition of a jury composed of important personalities of the Spanish industry who valued the strong commitment of the company from Burgos to contribute to the energy transition.

“It is always an honor to have your work and effort recognized, but it is doubly gratifying when awards of this type highlight the contribution that we make as a company to social welfare, in our case by researching and working on the development of a technology that seeks to contribute to the decarbonization of Spanish and European industry,” explains Andrés Hernando, CEO of Hiperbaric.

Hiperbaric shared the award with other companies from sectors such as agri-food, automotive and construction, in a record number of nominations. The award ceremony was attended by different personalities from the world of politics, business and society, who also had the opportunity to listen to the words of the counselor of industry of Castilla y León, Mariano Veganzones, who highlighted the important weight of the Castilian industry with a turnover of 50,000 million euros every year.

High pressure leadership

Hiperbaric, a world leader in high-pressure technology for the food sector, was the Spanish company to supply the first high-pressure hydrogen compressor for sustainable mobility to the National Hydrogen Center in Puertollano, in Ciudad Real, and to supply other equipment to the Power to Green Hydrogen project, the consortium led by Enagás, Acciona, Cemex, IDAE and Redexis, to deploy the green hydrogen ecosystem in Mallorca.

In addition, it signed the largest high-pressure compressor contract for green hydrogen in 2022 with France’s Lhyfe, one of the world’s pioneers in the production of green and renewable hydrogen, to supply compressors for several locations in Europe.

The company has also signed agreements to supply its technology to the municipal transport companies of Madrid (Serveo and EMT) and Barcelona. In the same line, agreements have been signed with the company Coagener to provide equipment for the commercial green hydrogen plant in Algeciras.

In Europe, in recent months the company has reached agreements to install its technology in the Netherlands and Sweden, establishing itself as the European reference in high-pressure hydrogen compression with solutions that drive the energy transition.

Green hydrogen is set to become the zero-emission substitute for natural gas in the domestic and industrial spheres and for petroleum derivatives in the automotive sector. It is a key energy vector for decarbonization on Europe’s path towards a more sustainable economy. It is the great ally of renewables thanks to its storage capacity which, however, due to its low density and large volume at ambient temperature, needs to be compressed for storage prior to use.
