Often, when we imagine eating healthily, we think of bland foods or a feeling of deprivation. But at Vegal, they believe people can enjoy both pleasure and healthy eating! With this aim, Vegal was founded in 2020 to produce and market elaborate fruit and vegetable-based products that would be tastefully and nutritionally superior to market standards. To achieve this, they have a little secret: high pressure processing (HPP).
A delicious and healthy product portfolio
Fruit desserts and vegetable spreads have been developed by their team and are produced every day in their workshop. Contributing to healthy eating is truly Vegal’s commitment. In concrete terms, this means, for example, guaranteeing the absence of preservatives to produce the best possible fruit desserts. About the raw materials, the apples they use come from nearby orchards. They also use frozen raw fruit that is picked when fully ripe.
Hummus is made from chickpeas blanched for a few seconds, with the added spices intact. Their flavor is sublime. Avocado purée retains its beautiful green color throughout the shelf life of their guacamole. Raw, crunchy cucumber blends with the sweetness of Greek yogurt to create their delicious tzatziki. A premise is that all of their products are never ever heated, they always keep them fresh. Thanks to HPP, the shelf life of their products is extended for over a month.
How they do it
Vegal develops different packaging formats adapted to each use, for example, sealed skin cups for desserts, or trays for alternative applications. But they also offer them in larger formats for restaurant or food service applications such as big pouches and flexible bags.
They work under long-term, transparent partnerships with different company profiles from start-ups to major food groups. In the words of Gwendal Lannou, General Manager at Vegal: “The amazing HPP food applications team at Hiperbaric has guided us during the development of our products. Their support helps us to take full advantage of the benefits of this nonthermal technology.”
