XI Edition of the Educational Challenge

Students and teachers from Virgen de la Paloma Secondary School, winners of Hiperbaric Challenge

 

  • The 11th edition of this competition promoted by the Burgos-based company Hiperbaric brought together more than 300 participants in a race of inertia cars through the streets of the center of Burgos.
  • Young people from ten schools in the provinces of Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Vizcaya, La Coruña, Orense and Burgos have participated throughout the school year in the Hiperbaric Challenge educational project to design a prototype and build an inertia car.
  • The runners-up were IES de FENE, in Fene, A Coruña; and in third place Niño Jesús School, in Burgos.

The secondary school Virgen de la Paloma, with the representation of their team “Los Palomos”, have been the winners of Hiperbaric Challenge 2024. Burgos has hosted the eleventh edition of the HIPERBARIC Challenge inertia car competition, an initiative that aims to encourage partnerships between the business world and the education system and promote the development of scientific-technical vocations of young people by enhancing their talent and creativity. This race has also scored for the Spanish Inertia Sports Cup.

The XI edition of this competition promoted by the Burgos company Hiperbaric brought together more than 300 participants in a race of inertia cars through the streets of downtown Burgos.

The runners-up were IES de FENE, in Fene, A Coruña; and third place went to Niño Jesús School, in Burgos. The award for Best Technical Project and Implementation went to FENE; and the award for Best Business Project went to Niño Jesús School, in Burgos.

The Hiperbaric Challenge educational project consisted of designing, building and prototyping an inertia car, and was carried out in accordance with the requirements established by the Inertia Sports Federation for this type of vehicle, in order to combine education, sport and engineering. The program includes the task of developing a global project and a feasibility plan in which participants address technical and technological issues of the project.

The students of 3rd and 4th grade, Baccalaureate and Basic Professional Training Cycles, Middle Grade and Higher Grade competed with the inertia cars they had developed, and made the route that connects the Castle of Burgos with the Alonso Martínez Square. On the previous day, Friday, June 21, the schools that participated in the 11th edition of this challenge presented their business project to a jury of experts at the Hiperbaric facilities, in which they defended its viability with aspects such as economic management, the marketing plan and the management of the equipment.

Students aged 13 and over from ten schools participated: San Valero Center in Zaragoza; IES Punta Candieira in Cedeira and EIS Fene, both in the province of A Coruña; Esteve Terradas i Illa high school in Cornellá de Llobregat, in Barcelona; Maristas school in Ourense; IES Luis Vives in Leganés; IES Virgen de la Paloma in Madrid; and CIFP Bidebieta LHII in Basauri, in Vizcaya. From the province of Burgos, Niño Jesús School – Educere Foundation has presented two teams to the Hiperbaric Challenge.

Hiperbaric has provided the tutors and students with the tools to develop the project, both at a training level, with meetings and mentoring, and logistically, with a basic kit consisting of the bodywork and wheels with tires and rims for each of the teams.

The inertia cars, which must have between 3 or 4 wheels and be equipped with steering and brakes and be propulsion-free, overcame a course that included fast curves, blind curves, chicanes and a stretch of uneven cobblestone.

Innovative challenge to awaken vocations

Hiperbaric Challenge provides young participants with an approach to the business world, where they approach decision making and receive academic and professional guidance. It also provides them with a first immersion in the technological world through two innovative companies, Hiperbaric and Desmasa.

Hiperbaric Challenge is organized by Hiperbaric and Desmasa and has the collaboration of the University of Burgos, the Burgos Provincial Council, the Burgos City Council, the Junta de Castilla y León, the Spanish Federation of Inertial Sports and the company Grupo Invicta.
